Serve Big – Hands-on Tuscaloosa Service Day
March 1, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Various Locations

Join The University of Alabama’s Serve Big initiative for a day of community service. Hands-on Tuscaloosa is an opportunity for UA students to give back to the Tuscaloosa community through various service projects. Students will connect with local organizations and begin forming lasting volunteer relationships.

Weather Day Trivia with James Spann
March 1, 6-8 p.m., Student Center Theater 

Weather fans and trivia enthusiasts will enjoy a fun night with James Spann, Alabama’s beloved meteorologist. The event will feature weather-themed trivia, free food, giveaways and the chance to meet James Spann in person. This event is free for students and provides an excellent opportunity to engage with one of the state’s most iconic weather personalities.  

Capstone Student Investment Conference
March 1, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 0002 Hewson Hall

The annual Capstone Student Investment Conference will feature professional speakers and attracts both students and professionals. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from financial experts and network with like-minded individuals. 

Live, Work, Play Birmingham
March 3, 2-3 p.m., 149 Bidgood Hall

The Career Center at Culverhouse presents the “Live, Work, Play” series, exploring the opportunities in Birmingham, one of the Southeast’s top cities for students. In this session, executives and alumni from companies like Shipt, KPMG, Hibbett and Regions will provide insight into living and working in Birmingham. For students in the Culverhouse College of Business, this event is eligible for LEAD points. 

Mid-Semester Scaries PopUP (University Programs)
March 4, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Student Center

Feeling the mid-semester slump? Stop by the Mid-Semester Scaries PopUP event for anxiety-relieving activities, free food from Foosackley’s, and a DIY self-care kit. University Programs provides an excellent break from the stress with a fun, stress-free event. 

A Creative Writing Masterclass with Chika Unigwe
March 4, 2-3 p.m., North Lawn Hall, 1011 

Join Nigerian-born author Chika Unigwe for a free masterclass on the craft of creative writing. This event, hosted by the University of Alabama’s Creative Writing Program, will provide invaluable insights from an internationally acclaimed novelist. Unigwe is the author of On Black Sisters’ Street and The Phoenix, among other works. 

R Coding: Writing Even Better Programs (Automation with Loops and Conditions)
March 4, 4-5 p.m., 011 Bruno Business Library

For those interested in programming, this workshop will teach you how to write more efficient code by utilizing loops and conditions. Learn how to avoid “hard coding” and automate your processes for maximum efficiency. 

King Cake at the Gorgas House
March 4, 10 a.m.-noon, Gorgas House 

Celebrate Mardi Gras with a free King Cake at the Gorgas House Museum. This event honors Amelia Gayle Gorgas’ childhood memories in Mobile, Alabama, the true birthplace of Mardi Gras.

From finding an internship to making a lasting impression, attend this event to learn internship tips and best practices. Students will also receive the Zoom link for this Virtual program by registering on Handshake.

Northport Bunny Trail
March 22-April 20, Downtown Northport

Hop to downtown Northport this spring to see dozens of giant egg displays decorated festively by local businesses, schools and organizations at this free Easter-themed community event.

T-Town Repair Cafe
March 22, noon-3 p.m., Tuscaloosa Public Library 

The Repair Cafe returns! This hit event provides community members a chance to fix broken household items, clothing, and electronics. Skilled volunteers will assist with repairs in a fun, interactive atmosphere. Save money through sustainably! 

39th Annual Sakura Festival & Haiku Contest
March 22, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Snow Hinton Park 

Celebrate the beauty of Japanese culture at the 39th Annual Sakura Festival, featuring performances, educational demonstrations and family friendly activities. The event will also include the Sakura Haiku Contest, with the theme “Tomo ni hagukumu” or “Harmony.” The deadline for haiku entries is March 15.  

Swan Lake: State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine
March 25, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Bama Theatre 

Enjoy a magical evening with the State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine’s breathtaking performance of Swan Lake at the Bama Theatre. This legendary ballet will feature over 200 costumes and intricate set designs. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are available now for this extraordinary cultural experience. 

Visit Tuscaloosa Half Marathon
March 29, 7 a.m., Government Plaza 

Run along the scenic Black Warrior River and the UA campus at the 12th Annual Visit Tuscaloosa Half Marathon. If 13.1 miles is not for you, there’s also a 5K and Alabama Credit Union 1-Mile Fun Run. The race concludes with celebratory live music, food, and drinks.
