Make Sure You’re Ready to Roll the Vote

UA students, faculty and staff are encouraged to be sure they are registered to vote and that their registration is accurate as the mid-term elections approach.

Roll the Vote voter registration and absentee ballot information drives are set for Sept. 26-29, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Student Center. Stop by to check your registration status, get absentee ballot information and more. The daily schedule of drive locations includes:

  • Monday, Sept. 26: Intercultural Diversity Center (Room 2100)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 27: Student Government Association Office (Room 2617)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 28: Black Student Union Office (Room 1805)
  • Thursday, Sept. 29: Blackburn Institute (Room 2408)

The deadline to register to vote in Alabama for the Nov. 8 mid-term elections is Oct. 24 and updating or changing registration can be a confusing process. Roll the Vote has a web page to help make voter registration easy for anyone planning to vote in Alabama or their home state. On the site, voters and prospective voters can also get registered, find answers to their voting questions and even set up election reminders.

Other states may require voters to be registered further in advance of the Nov. 8 election than Alabama. Voter registration deadlines for other states can be found on the vote.org website. The Alabama Secretary of State’s website also contains more information on registration and important deadlines for absentee voting.

Political science professor Dr. Richard Fording said it is imperative that voters and prospective voters are encouraged and enabled to get to the polls.

“During this period in our history, it is more important than ever for everyone to have their voices heard.”
