Cynthia Hope Named Assistant Vice President for Research at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Cynthia Hope, director of the Office for Sponsored Programs within the division of the Office for Research at The University of Alabama, has been named assistant vice president for research at UA.

Her responsibilities at UA include Sponsored Programs administration, contract and grant accounting, and cost analysis. Hope is recognized on campus as an effective leader who has an in-depth understanding of research administration and finance.

Hope, who has directed the Office for Sponsored Programs since 2004, previously worked at UAB in the areas of costing, grant and contract accounting and financial accounting and reporting. Prior to that, she worked at Coopers and Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers, as a CPA.

She has served as workshop faculty, presenter, committee member and regional officer in the National Council of University Research Administrators; is a member of the faculty for the annual National Association of College and University Business Officers Facilities and Administrative Rate Workshop; is an active member of the Council on Governmental Relations; and she serves as the administrative representative for the University in the Federal Demonstration Partnership.

Hope received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from UA in 1989 and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the UA Culverhouse School of Accountancy in 1994.

She comes to the position with 15 years of combined experience in sponsored project audit and accounting, as well as 12 years of public higher education contract and grant administration experience.
