UA honors Autherine Lucy Foster

Back in 1956, Autherine Lucy Foster made history as the first black person to ever attend the University of AlabamaIt took a court order to force the school to accept her and even then she had to leave after only three days on campus because of racist protests and death threats. Foster returned years later and earned a master’s degree in education in 1991 and this past Friday she returned again.

UA students take long in month-long course in Marion

Coca-Cola renews 1st Generation Scholarship

Coca-Cola has renewed their $1 million grant. The Coca-Cola Foundation is continuing its support for the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholars Program with the University of Alabama with a new four-year grant award of $1 million.

Marriage, divorce or buying a home can be costly distractions for investors

When you’re distracted, your performance suffers. That’s true of surgeons – research suggests distraction in the operating room is a major factor in up to half of hospital errors … Both positive and negative stressors – marriage, divorce and buying a house, to name a few – can negatively affect investors, according to Sugata Ray, a finance professor at the University of Alabama who has co-written some novel research on the subject.

Marshall University Implements Mobile ID Cards, Payments

Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, has implemented mobile identification cards and payments, allowing Apple software users on campus to conduct their business wallet-free … Marshall University is the first educational institution in West Virginia to adopt this technology and one of the first in the country — including the University of Alabama, Duke University and the University of Oklahoma — to offer contactless student ID cards.
