UA’s New College Hosts Author of ‘Gardening for Dummies’

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s New College welcomes alumna speaker Barbara Pleasant to discuss “What a Garden Can Do for You,” on April 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Maxwell Hall on campus.

This reading is the third and last of New College’s “Distinguished Alumni Speaker” series for the spring semester. Her lecture is free and open to the public.

Pleasant is a lecturer and columnist and best-selling author of more than 20 books on plants and gardening. She has written for national magazines and newspapers including Mother Earth News, Organic Gardening and Gardening How To. Some of her books include “The Southern Advisor,” “Gardening for Dummies,” and “Annuals for Dummies.”

Pleasant graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from New College at UA in 1975.

New College was established at UA in 1970 to provide an opportunity for highly motivated undergraduates to have greater flexibility in forming a curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.
