3-Minute Thesis Winners Include AI, Relationship Data

The University of Alabama Graduate School announced the winners of the 2025 Three-Minute Thesis competition held Nov. 20. Artificial Intelligence, personal relationships and health rounded out the winning presentations.

The mission of the competition is to encourage participants not just to simplify their research but also to communicate complex discoveries effectively. It also highlights the participants’ hard work and skill development.

Judges assess four aspects of each presentation: comprehension, content, engagement and communication.

This Year’s Winners

First Place ($1,500 scholarship): Emma Kate Henry (economics and finance)

Second Place ($1,000 scholarship): Arianna Injeian (anthropology)

Third Place ($750 scholarship): Mina Tran (English)

Fourth Place ($250 scholarship): Braden Hall (psychology)

People’s Choice ($750 scholarship): Udita Shiromani (translational science and medicine)

Henry will represent UA at the Council of Southern Graduate Schools 3MT® regional finals in Baton Rouge in February 2026. UA’s 3MT® participants frequently place highly and earn People’s Choice awards at the regional level.

About the Competition

The 3MT® competition, originally developed by the University of Queensland, Australia, challenges graduate students to present their research and its significance in just three minutes, using language that a non-specialist audience can understand.

This highly anticipated, annual event showcases the exceptional research and communication skills of UA’s graduate students.
