Construction Will Limit Photo Ops in Spring and Summer of 2026
Soon-to-be graduates wanting to take photos in front of one of the most iconic buildings on campus should make early plans as the President’s Mansion is set to undergo repairs and renovations following the conclusion of the fall semester.
While maintaining its important historical integrity, the nearly 200-year-old residence will undergo extensive exterior and interior updates for the first time in 35 years. The University has been working on plans for the project for several years with construction expected to take about eight months. The most recognizable update will be replacing the stucco around the exterior.
Additional updates include repairing and refurbishing all windows with original door sashes added to certain windows, adding an elevator to meet ADA requirements and refreshing public spaces inside the residence.
The project is scheduled to start Dec. 15, and completion is scheduled for August 2026.
Students expecting to graduate next spring and summer who want photos in front of the mansion should do so before the project begins. May and August 2026 graduation candidates can apply to be featured in a UA News Center story sharing their Alabama experience and get a photo shoot on the President’s Mansion lawn with a professional photographer.
Please be advised that the President’s Mansion will continue to host events through Dec. 14. As a result, photography may be restricted or unavailable during select dates and times.
