Blackboard Ultra Course View, otherwise known as Ultra, is the next evolution of the Blackboard learning management system. Some UA classes have elected to use Ultra since Spring 2023; now, it is time for all UA classes to complete this transition. All Blackboard courses will be taught in Ultra by Spring 2026.
1. Technology change with less stress
Ultra uses the same stable and supported connections to Banner for enrollment and grading, letting UA transition to a simpler, more modern LMS without having to reinvent the wheel. Ultra offers the same or better access to instructional technology tools like Turnitin, Respondus, Panopto and more. Instructors can copy a single item or an entire course’s content into Ultra with just a few clicks, and most content copies without issue.
2. Course management with increased efficiency
Ultra is designed for educators by educators and features simplified workflows: to add course content, simply select the plus sign (+). It offers easier ways to provide student accommodations, track student progress and manage assessments and grading. Users, whether teaching or learning, need little experience to find and use the tools available to them. Oh, and you can drag and drop within your course and even from your computer to your course.
3. Student engagement with greater ease
Students appreciate Ultra’s responsive design and mobile-friendly approach. They like the course search tool and standard menu for common tools and tasks that provide consistent navigation across courses. Progress Tracking and other features help students gauge their progress. And course badges are fun too!
4. Accessibility with superior impact
Developed with accessibility in mind, Ultra is more usable for people with disabilities than Blackboard Original and other LMS options. Its Ally tool provides accessibility guidance to instructors and automagically offers instructor-provided content in various formats to support learning needs and preferences: MP3, Immersive Reader, HTML, ePub and more.
5. Support with your needs in mind
Instructors and students are well-supported in the move to Ultra. Instructors can explore the new Blackboard in their UA Ultra Practice Course. There are step-by-step guides, with pictures; in-person and online workshops, webinars, office hours, and Ultra cafes; and group training and individual consultations are available on request. Departments are encouraged to invite Center for Instructional Technology staff to offer information sessions and set up a table to answer questions about and offer help with Ultra.
