The University of Alabama’s Office of Student Care and Well-Being is partnering with the West Alabama Food Bank to provide increased access to fresh and nutritional food for students with emergency needs. This collaboration aims to ensure that every student has the resources they need to focus on their academics.
The newly expanded food pantry offers students easier access to emergency food assistance and a wider variety of food options.
Dr. Hunter Christian, director of Student Care and Well-Being, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “We want students to have access to adequate food and the new pantry is one tool that SC&WB uses to meet that goal.”
“We want the students to be healthy and successful,” Christian noted. “As we all know, food is very expensive. By partnering with the West Alabama Food Bank, we’ll be able to buy our food at a discount per pound, allowing us to stretch our dollars and provide even more for our students.”
This initiative is supported by key partners including the Coca-Cola Company, Bama Dining, The University of Alabama Supply Store and UA Student Center staff.
An open house event at the BamaCares Pantry will be held Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon where visitors can tour the pantry and learn more about the program.
Student Care and Well-being encourages students in need to visit their office on the first floor of the UA Student Center. Additionally, they can explore more resources on the SC&WB website.
