Four UA student bands are plugging in their amps and setting up drum kits preparing to earn the title of Tuscaloosa’s Best Band 2023. The second annual Battle of the Bands raises funds for the Student Government Association’s Joe Espy Needs-Based Scholarship, which earned nearly $7,500 during the 2022 competition.
Last year’s winner, Midnight Steel, will compete against The Valet, Top Heavy and Wax Monkey on Nov. 2 at Druid City Music Hall with the winning band receiving a cash prize.
“With the final round of Battle of the Bands quickly approaching, I am excited for the competition to serve as an in-person opportunity for our student bands to share their talents with their peers while raising funds for the Joe Espy Needs-Based Scholarship,” said Samad Gillani, SGA’s vice president of external affairs. “We anticipate a large number of ticket sales due to our individual or group purchasing options.”
Voting for the final round will be conducted via a single submission Qualtrics link through QR codes that will be on display at the event.
Individual tickets are $15 and can be picked up in the SGA office in the Student Center.
Group tickets are available at a discounted price:
25 Tickets – $13.50 each
50 Tickets – $12 each
75 Tickets – $10.50 each
100 Tickets – $9 each
Tickets can be purchased through links on the SGA’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Visit the Battle of the Bands page to view a sampling of each band’s style before heading out to the live competition.
