March is National Nutrition Month, and UA’s Wellness and Work-Life staff have a lot planned.
MoveSpring World Recipe Tour
UA Wellness has partnered with MoveSpring to help you make every step count toward your activity goals through monthly fitness challenges. Create an account and download the MoveSpring app for free. It will sync your steps and notify you of the monthly fitness challenges. While most challenges are geared to physical activity, some focus on other health aspects; but, if you average at least 8,000 steps a day during any challenge you will receive WellBAMA program credit.
The March 21-25 challenge is a world recipe tour. Expand your palate while exploring other cultures and learn more about how to create flavorful, well-balanced meals. Each day a recipe from a different continent will be shared to the MoveSpring app.
“All the ingredients should be easy to find at most grocery stores. In general, we aim for things that are low in sodium, fat and sugar and things that are high in fiber, nutrients and protein. They are all easy to make at home, with prep or active times at 30 minutes or lower,” said Ashlie Bowman, wellness program coordinator.
Bowman said to expect African hot pot potatoes, Caribbean jerk chicken kabobs with mango salsa, butternut squash curry from India, Nordic stone-age bread and empanadas with chorizo and potato from South America.
And, while enjoying this culinary tour challenge, you can still earn WellBAMA program credit by averaging 8,000 steps per day.
Better Bites is a 4-week nutrition program that will teach you how to create a meal plan based on your health and budget needs, season your meals without salt, understand a food label and navigate the grocery store.
Led by registered dietitian Suzanne Henson, classes will meet each Thursday in March (except the week of spring break) from noon to 1 p.m. at the Employee Resource Center. Zoom attendance will also be offered. Register online.
Better Bites is a qualifying WellBAMA program. Attend all sessions to earn program credit toward a $50 WellBama Reward.
