Inspired by Marvel’s “Black Panther”, several participants wore Dashikis, Kitenges, Kurtas and other traditional African clothing. Others wore black tie attire. The Purple Heart Flower, center, pays homage to Marvel’s “Black Panther” and African traditions. In the movie, the flower grants the recipient panther-like skills and powers. Vibrant colors, detailed embroidery and traditional accessories are shown. Singer Nimiwari performs at the Wakanda Scholarship Ball. Alabama A&M’s Black History Scholars Bowl team was awarded the first-place trophy. The University of Alabama’s Black History Scholars Bowl team. Attendees danced the night away. Dressed in their best attire, the two take a selfie while out on the dance floor. Bright, vibrant colors like red or yellow are commonly seen throughout African fashion.
