Sporting a $14.7 million renovation, Paty Hall will reopen in August just in time for the start of the 2019-20 academic year.
The residence hall, which provides housing to students in the Culverhouse College of Business, underwent a major interior renovation of more than 90,350 gross square feet with the goal of enhancing the living experience of each resident. Targeted improvements were made over the past year to the building’s restroom facilities, shower areas, residential living spaces and common areas. These upgrades required the facility to undergo a complete electrical and plumbing overhaul.
While the project will improve the building’s traditional double-occupancy rooms, it will also create an increased number of desirable single living spaces throughout the building.
Through the creation of a faculty-in-residence apartment and the ability to make the building coed by wing because of added access points and security measures, Paty Hall will become UA’s first fully updated traditional residence hall on campus. The project is the first in a series of renovations to address needs of UA’s housing and residential communities.
The renovation also will allow the Culverhouse Business Living-Learning Community to return to Paty. The living-learning community benefits residents by providing on-site mentoring, advising and peer counseling.
In addition to renovations inside the facility, select exterior upgrades include improvements to the building’s landscape and irrigation system. Plans are set to replace the building’s windows next summer.
Paty Hall will house approximately 400 residents when it reopens in the fall.
