UA to Celebrate Research, Creative Activity by UA Faculty

Members of The University of Alabama faculty will be honored for their research and creative contributions at the upcoming Faculty Research Day.

As part of the celebration, eight members of the faculty will be recognized as recipients of the President’s Faculty Research Award during a ceremony at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, in the Bryant Conference Center on the UA campus.

Sponsored by the offices of the President and Vice President for Research and Economic Development, the award goes to outstanding faculty researchers from across UA’s colleges and schools.

The winners come from each of three groupings: physical and biological sciences, mathematics and engineering; social and behavioral sciences; and arts and humanities. In each grouping, nominations were solicited for a senior, mid-career and emerging scholar to be honored.

“It is important to recognize the vital research and creative contributions our faculty make to expand our knowledge, to enrich the lives of others and to enhance the educational experiences of our students,” said Dr. Russell J. Mumper, UA vice president for Research and Economic Development.

Faculty Research Day highlights and celebrates excellence in research, creativity and scholarship by bringing together faculty from across campus. The event is also intended to increase awareness and generate enthusiasm for scholarship among faculty as the University advances its research enterprise and its impact.

In addition to remarks by UA President Stuart R. Bell and Mumper, National Academy of Inventors inductees will also be recognized.

A networking opportunity begins at 4 p.m., and there will be a reception after the ceremony concludes.
