UA’s Fashion For Life Features Senior Apparel Design Collections

fashion-for-lifeTUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama apparel design students will have an opportunity to showcase their talents during the seventh annual Fashion for Life.

Fashion for Life, set for Nov. 22, began as a way for senior apparel design students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences’ department of clothing, textiles and interior design to showcase a final collection.

“Each student is required to design a collection that represents their design philosophy and one designed for their target market,” said show coordinator Brian Taylor, an instructor in the department.

Students start researching inspiration and trends, sketching and buying fabrics and trims over the summer. They then begin working on their different looks, creating a garment every couple of weeks. Each of the 23 students will show between three to five looks.

“(This show is) a culminating experience to showcase their individual style and design aesthetic,” Taylor said. “(It’s) an opportunity for them and their family to see their growth, talent and skill level.”

Event attendees will not only enjoy a night of talent and fashion, but they will also help a much-deserved organization. Proceeds from the show will benefit Hospice of West Alabama.

The design showcase will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Ferguson Center ballroom. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Armbands can be purchased in Doster 307 from Donna McGee for $5; tickets will also be available at the door. Checks can be made to SMDA – Student Merchandising & Design Association.
