UA International Education Week Highlights Global Educational Opportunities

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Capstone International Center is sponsoring International Education Week from Monday, Nov. 16, to Friday, Nov. 20, to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

The initiative, which is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States. The program will consist of events such as film screenings, discussion panels, featured speakers and educational lunch and coffee gatherings. The Capstone International Center initiates, promotes and supports UA’s international efforts on campus, throughout the state and around the world.

Events open to the public include:

Monday, Nov. 16:

10 a.m. — Global Movements tai  chi, Gorgas House lawn, sponsored by Wellbama, Gorgas House Museum and Capstone International Center.

Noon — Global Movements yoga, Gorgas House lawn, sponsored by Wellbama, Gorgas House Museum and Capstone International Center.

Noon — Lunch ‘n Learn, topic: Japan, 135 BB Comer, sponsored by Education Abroad.

5 p.m. — Documentary Screening: “I Learn America,” 118 Graves Hall, sponsored by College of Education and Capstone International Center.

6:30 p.m. — Refugee Crisis panel, 1004 Shelby Hall, sponsored by Alabama International Relations Club.

Tuesday, Nov. 17:

Noon — Lunch ‘n Learn, topic: KEDGE, France, 135 BB Comer, sponsored by Education Abroad.

5 p.m. — Global Café: Celebrating International Education in Tuscaloosa, UA Center for Community Based Partnerships, sponsored by Center for Community Based Partnerships.

Wednesday Nov. 18:

10 a.m. — Learn About Brazil!, Crimson Promenade, sponsored by Capstone International Center.

Noon — Lunch ‘n Learn, topic: Politecnico di Torino, Italy, 135 BB Comer, sponsored by Education Abroad.

3:30 p.m. — Speaker: Jane Meyers, founder and president of the Lubuto Library Partners, Gorgas Library, Room 205, sponsored by UA Libraries, School of Library and Information Studies and Capstone International Center.

7 p.m. — Documentary Screening: “Zaatari: Jordan’s Newest City,” 329 Lloyd Hall, sponsored by Alabama International Relations Club.

Thursday, Nov. 19:
