UA Social Work Colloquium to Focus on Evidence-Based Practice

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Bruce Thyer, professor and former dean at the Florida State University School of Social Work, will give a talk on “Evidence-Based Practice: Myths and Misconceptions,” at noon Monday, Oct. 12, in room 104 of Little Hall at The University of Alabama.

Thyer’s contributions to social work research, practice and education have received national and international recognition. He has been elected as a Fellow by the Society for Social Work and Research, the Association for Psychological Science, and the American Psychological Association.

Thyer has published more than 400 articles, books, and book chapters in the fields of social work, psychology, psychiatry, and program evaluation. He is the editor of the journal Research on Social Work Practice, which is being published for the 25th year, and is co-editor of the Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal.

Additionally, Thyer is a licensed clinical social worker and a board-certified behavior analyst.

Thyer’s talk is part of the School of Social Work’s Colloquium Series that brings speakers to campus to share expertise with UA faculty, staff, students and guests. The lecture is free and open to the University community and the public.
