UA’s Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Hosts Bone-Marrow Registration

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity is sponsoring a Be the Match on Campus bone-marrow registration drive from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the fraternity house, 202 University Blvd. on campus.

The event is the fraternity’s second Hadley Drive, which began as a search for a bone-marrow donor match for Hadley Mercer, the infant daughter of UA alumnus and fraternity member Brad Mercer. A match was found for Hadley, but the drive will continue in her honor to help register more potential donors in the hopes of saving more lives.

During the event, workers will register potential bone-marrow donors ages 18 to 44 using a cheek swab. Donations to the organization will also be collected.

Organizers are providing free Chick-fil-A food for participants and Panhellenic points are available for registrants.

Be The Match On Campus began as a grassroots effort by students committed to saving the lives of patients who need a bone marrow transplant. The group works with the Be the Match Registry and National Marrow Donor Program.
