UA’s Honors Week 2015 to Include Tapping on the Mound

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will recognize the achievement of outstanding students and faculty during Honors Week activities on campus starting Monday, March 30.

The Tapping on the Mound ceremony, a tradition since the early 1900s, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 3, on the Mound at the west side of the UA Quad (rain location will be Moody Music Building Concert Hall). University honoraries Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Blue Key National Honor Society and Anderson Society will induct members.

ODK’s membership includes students of junior standing or above who are in the top 35 percent of their class scholastically and who exhibit leadership. Mortar Board membership, one of the highest honors granted to college seniors, is based on leadership, scholarship and service. Blue Key National Honor Society recognizes seniors who represent high scholastic ideals, leadership and diversity of background. The Anderson Society recognizes UA students who have made significant contributions to the University or the Tuscaloosa community.

Sunday, March 29

  • 4 p.m. — Black Scholars honors program, Ferguson Center Ball and Heritage room.

Monday, March 30

  • 4 p.m. – College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Academic Honors Convocation, Moody Music Building Recital Hall.

Tuesday March 31

  • 4 p.m. – Iota Iota Iota induction ceremony and reception, Alston Parlor.

Wednesday April 1

  • Noon — Randall Outstanding Undergraduate Research Awards luncheon, The University Club.
  • 5:30 p.m. — Order of Omega initiation and awards banquet, North River Yacht Club.

Friday, April 3

  • 9 a.m. — College of Communication and Information Sciences Honors Day reception, Reese Phifer Hall rotunda.
  • 9:30 a.m. — College of Education Honors Day reception, Graves Hall, Woodis-McDonald Auditorium.
  • 10 a.m. — College of Communication and Information Sciences Honors Day ceremony, 216 Reese Phifer Hall.
  • 10 a.m. – College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Academic Honors Convocation, Moody Music Building Concert Hall.
  • 10 a.m. — School of Accountancy Honors Day reception, Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center.
  • 10 a.m. — Convocation to honor outstanding social work students, 120 Farrah Hall.
  • 10 a.m. — Honors Day awards ceremony and reception, Capstone College of Nursing.
  • 10 a.m. — College of Human Environmental Sciences convocation, Morgan Auditorium.
  • 10:30 a.m. — College of Education honors convocation, Graves Hall Auditorium.
  • 12:30 p.m. — Psychology Department Honors Day assembly, 208 Gordon Palmer Hall.
  • 1 p.m. — Chemistry Department Honors Day convocation, Shelby Hall Auditorium.
  • 1:30 p.m. — Tapping on the Mound ceremony, UA Quad.
  • 2:30 p.m. — Culverhouse College of Commerce Management Honors Day program, Hotel Capstone ballroom.
  • 6 p.m. — Human Resource Management Program honors dinner, Cypress Inn pavilion.
