Holle Screenwriting Award Seeks UA Student Screenwriters

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s College of Communication & Information Sciences will award one aspiring screenwriter $10,000 during the spring 2015 semester through the Holle Screenwriting Award.

The 2015 contest is open to all current UA undergraduate and graduate students and offers a $10,000 first prize. Students must submit an 80- to 120-page script, including a one-sentence logline.

“This is such an incredible opportunity for our students — not only those majoring in telecommunication and film, but any student on campus who is an aspiring screenwriter,” said Neely Portera, the College’s director of development. “With Mr. Holle’s support, we hope this award program will eventually gain national prominence.”

The deadline for entry is 4 p.m. March 2. Each author must submit two copies of the script, along with the submission form, to Tisch Student Services, Reese Phifer 296. Authors may submit multiple entries, but each entry must meet guidelines and criteria and be accompanied by a separate admission form.

The award is named for UA alumnus Everett Holle, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast and Film Communication in 1950 and who has continually supported the University and the College of Communication & Information Sciences, which sponsors the award.

“Everett Holle is a true representation of the UA spirit,” said Dr. Mark Nelson, dean of C&IS. “He has an unending commitment to the College and its students, who benefit greatly from the expertise that only comes with years of experience in the communication field.”
