UA’s Hudson Strode Program to Host Film Series at Bama Theatre

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Hudson Strode Program in Renaissance Studies in the English department of The University of Alabama will kick off a monthly Shakespeare on Film series at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa.

The series, which will continue through April, features a range of films with Shakespearian themes. It will include the popular, contemporary film “Ten Things I Hate about You” as well as such classics as “West Side Story” and lesser-known but equally relevant works including ” The Bad Sleep Well.”

The films, all free and open to the public, begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre.

The schedule is as follows:

• Monday, Sept. 15 – “Ten Things I Hate About You.”
• Monday, Oct. 13 – “Shakespeare Behind Bars.”
• Tuesday, Nov. 4 – “The Bad Sleep Well.”
• Tuesday, Dec. 16 -” To Be or Not to Be.”
• Monday, Jan.19, 2015 – “West Side Story.”
• Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 – “Deliver Us From Eva.”
• Wednesday, March 11, 2015 – “Forbidden Planet.”
• Monday, April 27, 2015 – “Love’s Labour’s Lost.”

UA’s English department is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the USA Today Academic All American Team.
