TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — More than 300 University of Alabama students are expected to perform service projects with 13 nonprofit organizations as part of Hands on Tuscaloosa from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8.

UA’s Community Service Center is organizing the effort. Service projects include cleaning an area of the Black Warrior River with the Black Warrior Riverkeepers, beautifying and landscaping Jesus Way Shelter & Hospice of West Alabama, 2681 24th St., and socializing the animals at the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, 3140 35th St. Other work sites include Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, and the Murphy African American Museum, 2601 Bryant Drive.

Students will gather at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at the parking lot by UA’s Capstone College of Nursing  to travel to the projects.

Begun in 2011, Hands on Tuscaloosa projects have encouraged more than 700 students to help the community. Since then, Hands on Tuscaloosa has grown into a twice a year event that deepens the relationships and demonstrates the connectedness of students and their Tuscaloosa community. Students are exposed to the needs of the Tuscaloosa community and are shown tangible ways that they can make a difference.
