UA to Host Political Training Program for Campus Women

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s Women’s Resource Center will host the fourth annual Elect Her-UA Women Win program at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb 1, in 301 Ferguson Center on campus.

Sponsored by the American Association of University Women, the national Elect Her initiative is designed to encourage and train young women to run for student government and future political office. In 2013, some 88 percent of Elect Her participants in colleges and universities across the country won their bids for student government president.

Students may register for the conference by going to http://wrc.ua.edu/ehForm.cfm. Registration is open until Friday, Jan. 24, but space is limited.

“We need to get more women in leadership roles throughout the state of Alabama,” said Sydney Page, UA senior and former UA SGA senator. “Women need to be an active part of the decisions that affects their lives and communities. What better way to begin this process of giving back than to get elected and serve in leadership roles than during your college tenure?”

Women’s Resource Center maximizes the learning experience of every UA student and the greater UA community through outreach, services and advocacy to empower women and encourage their active and equal participation.
