UA’s Camp Cash Open for Registration

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Middle school students will see just how much money matters during The University of Alabama’s Camp Cash June 10 through 14.

Hosted by UA’s College of Human Environmental Sciences, the one-week camp explores a variety of topics, including financial goal setting, budgeting, credit use, investing, insurance, wealth accumulation and career planning.

The camp is open to students ages 11 through 14 who are interested in “developing essential money management skills, experiencing college life, and enhancing confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills,” said Jan Brakefield, assistant professor in the College’s department of consumer sciences.

To qualify, campers must have an A/B grade average and be motivated to work hard. The students will work in teams in an assortment of hands-on activities, compete and win prizes. In addition to learning the importance of making wise financial decisions at a young age, campers will have an opportunity to explore different parts of UA’s campus, including the Supe Store, PNC Bank, Bryant Museum, the Alabama Museum of Natural History, Bryant-Denny Stadium and the Walk of Champions.

The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 10 through 14 at the Child Development Research Center on UA’s campus. The cost is $99 per camper. To register, phone Brakefield at 205/348-8722 or email jbrakefi@ches.ua.edu.
