UA Graduate Programs Ranked Among U.S. News ‘Best Graduate Schools’

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Law is ranked 21st in the nation and the UA School of Library and Information Studies is ranked 18th, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2014 edition of its annual “Best Graduate Schools” publication.

UA’s Master of Business Administration program, in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, comes in at 58th among all MBA programs.

“We are always pleased when our programs are recognized nationally. These graduate and professional programs offer an excellent education and a great value to our students,” said UA President Judy Bonner.

The law school’s ranking rose from 29th last year, placing UA in the top 25 for the first time.

The School of Library and Information Studies, a part of the UA College of Communication and Information Sciences, was previously ranked 22nd by U.S. News in the 2010 rankings, the last time U.S. News ranked library and information studies programs.

Dr. Heidi Julien, director of the School of Library and Information Studies, called the ranking “an extraordinary achievement, which belongs to each member of our school community.”

“The terrific work of our faculty members through strong research and teaching has significantly enhanced the profile of SLIS in the eyes of our sister schools across the U.S.,” Julien said.

The MBA program, a part of UA’s Manderson Graduate School of Business, moved up five spots from 63rd last year. The ranking places UA 29th among public universities.

Dr. J. Michael Hardin, dean of the Culverhouse College of Commerce, said, “One of our goals is to become one of the top 25 business programs in the nation in both our graduate and undergraduate programs. This is a good step in that direction.”
