Crimson Couch to 5K Walk/Run Event to be Held at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – More than 800 people are expected to participate in the third, annual Crimson Couch to 5K Walk/Run event Sunday, Nov. 11, at The University of Alabama.

The race will start at 2 p.m. from the Outdoor Pool Complex parking lot at the UA Student Recreation Center.

Sponsored by the UA Office of Health Promotion and Wellness, the event is open to the public and designed to raise awareness of the benefits of regular exercise for people of all ages.

This year, a 10K option has been added for those participants who wish to challenge themselves further.

Entry for the CC5K is free for pre-registered individuals who participated in the CC5K nine-week training program, as well as those under 18. People who did not participate in the training program may register prior to the event online, by mail, or in person at the OHPW in 321 Russell Hall.  The entry fee is $10 if participants register by Nov. 9 and $15 on race day.

“This event grows in size and scope each year and we are touching lives across the community with the opportunity to improve physical fitness,” said Dr. Rebecca Kelly, OHPW director.

“We know that over the past three years this event has produced significant results for those participating in the training program and it has encouraged families to exercise together on a daily basis,” she said.

In addition to the CC5K Walk/Run, participants can also enjoy a variety of entertainment before and during the event. Music, exhibits and activities for children will be located in the parking lot of the Outdoor Pool Complex and around the course.

The OHPW partnered with University Recreation and the Exercise Physiology Club to deliver health checks and training throughout the program. Additional sponsors of the CC5K Walk/Run Event include the University Medical Center Faculty/Staff Clinic and the Office for Academic Affairs.
