‘Timeless Traditions’ to be Featured Theme for UA Homecoming Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will welcome students, parents, alumni and visitors to campus during Homecoming Week 2012, to be held from Sunday, Oct. 21, to Saturday, Oct. 27. This year’s theme is “Timeless Traditions.”

The highlight of the week will be the UA football game against Mississippi State on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Bryant-Denny Stadium, at 7:30 p.m.

The week will begin with the 24th annual Roll Tide Run on Sunday, Oct. 21. Registration and check-in will be at the rear of Gorgas Library at noon and the race will begin on Capstone Drive on the UA campus at 1 p.m.

Paint the Town Red will begin on Monday, Oct. 22, from 1-4 p.m., where students can show their UA school spirit across Tuscaloosa. Students can pick up materials at the Ferguson Center SGA Office. The Bowling Tournament is also scheduled for Monday at 9 p.m. at Bama Bowl.

Homecoming Queen Elections will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Students can vote online at www.mybama.ua.edu for details. The Basketball Tournament is scheduled on Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center. CanFormation and judging will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Presidential Village.

On Wednesday, Oct. 24, students can participate in a Dodgeball Competition, starting at 7p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.

The Choreography Contest will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Foster Auditorium. The Comedy Show will also be on Thursday from 9-11 p.m. in the Ferguson Theater.

The annual Homecoming Pep Rally and Bonfire will be held Friday at 7 p.m. on the Quad. The NPHC Step Show will also be held on Friday from 8-10:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) in Foster Auditorium.

The Homecoming Parade will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m., going from downtown Tuscaloosa to the UA campus. Parade grand marshals are Coach Patrick Murphy, head coach of the Alabama Softball Team, Coach Mic Potter, head coach of the Alabama Women’s Golf Team, and Coach Sarah Patterson, head coach of the Alabama Gymnastics Team. All three coaches are being honored for leading their teams to national championship titles.
