UA College of C&IS Announces Hall of Fame Inductees

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —The University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences will holds its annual Communication Hall of Fame Oct. 11 in the North Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The 2012 inductees include Robert E. Luckie III, Sue O. Medina, Joe Rumore and Dolph Tillotson.

Robert E. Luckie III

Luckie recently retired from Luckie & Co., the advertising agency founded by his father, Robert Luckie Jr. Alongside his brother, CEO Tom Luckie, he helped the company grow to 132 employees with offices in San Antonio and Atlanta as well as Birmingham. He currently serves on the C&IS Board of Visitors and the UAB School of Nursing Board of Visitors.

Sue O. Medina

Medina is known for her work improving library accessibility in Alabama. Largely as a result of her efforts, we now have Alabama Mosaic, a digital “repository of materials on Alabama’s history, culture, places and people” available worldwide, and the Alabama Virtual Library which makes resources, especially databases, available to schools and individuals throughout the state.

Joe Rumore

Rumore, inducted posthumously, was a well-loved Alabama radio personality. His popularity was such that he received up to 2,500 pieces of fan mail per week and one Christmas received 42,000 cards from listeners. Rumore has been honored by induction into the Country Music DJ Hall of Fame in Nashville in 1999 and by the Contemporary Achievement Media Award from the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2003.

Tillotson

Tillotson has served in a variety of editorial roles at newspapers since he was a middle schooler and has led numerous publications to top awards on a state and national level, including The Natchez- (Miss.) Democrat, which, under his leadership, was named one of the best small newspapers in America by the American Newspaper Publishers Association. He is currently executive vice president of Southern Newspapers of Houston.

Tickets to the event are $125 and can be purchased by phoning 205/348-4787 by Tuesday, Oct. 2.
