UA to Hold Spring Commencement Ceremonies May 4 and 5

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama will hold its spring commencement ceremonies Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 in Coleman Coliseum on the UA campus.

Three University-wide commencement ceremonies will be held this year, at 6 p.m. Friday, May 4 and at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, to award degrees.

Commencement exercises for students in the colleges of Communication and Information Sciences, Education, Human Environmental Sciences and Nursing will be at 6 p.m., Friday, May 4. Two ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 5, with students in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Social Work receiving their degrees at 9 a.m. and students in the colleges of Commerce and Business Administration and Engineering receiving their degrees at 1:30 p.m.

Additionally, the School of Law will hold its commencement exercises at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

Doctoral recipients, education specialists and master’s degree candidates participate with their respective divisions.

The commencement ceremonies will be broadcast live over the Internet. The webcast will be archived on UA’s website, www.ua.edu/commencement, and will be available for viewing through May 2012.

David Reimschussel, director of choral activities at Westfield High School in Chantilly, Va., will be recognized as the 2012 recipient of the Capstone Inspiring Educator Award. The award, founded in 2010, recognizes high school teachers who have inspired UA students. Members of the UA senior class were invited to nominate a high school teacher whose commitment to helping students and inspirational approach to teaching made a difference in their lives.
