Community Service Center to Host Hunger Banquet at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Community Service Center is sponsoring a hunger banquet on Wednesday, March 7, at 6 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Heritage Room. The hunger banquet is based on an Oxfam program that gives participants a first-hand look at food inequality worldwide.

Diners will randomly draw tickets that will assign them to one of several income levels.The income level will determine the type of meal they will receive.

Following the meal, guests are given a chance to reflect on the root causes of hunger and poverty and on the changes they hope to make in their community as a result of the hunger banquet.

“The Hunger Banquet is an experience that gives students a new perspective on hunger issues in the world and their community. It is meant to be an interactive and reflective experience designed to foster understanding, perspective and the motivation to do something to help,” said Libby Loveless, CSC student director of civic engagement and outreach.  

Participant seating must be reserved by registering online at http://volunteer.ua.edu/hungerb.cfm. The CSC asks that each person within a group be registered.
