Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Drive in Final Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Community Service Center is making a final push to reach its goal of collecting 250,000 pounds of food by Friday, Nov. 18, the end of the annual Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive.

There will be a table at the Ferguson Center Plaza on Friday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. where food drive organizers will be accepting donations and giving out promotional items and coupons.  Entertainment will be provided by 90.7 The Capstone campus radio station.

This week, supporters are encouraged to place nonperishable food items in the collection barrels at locations on campus and around Tuscaloosa. Those with large amounts of food to donate can request pick up by calling the CSC at 205/348-2865. Monetary donations are welcome and accepted at various Bama Dining locations, at beatauburnbeathunger.ua.edu and by texting BAMA to 27722 to donate $10.

“We’re definitely expecting a big push in donations as we continue to near Friday. We want to encourage all UA students and residents of Tuscaloosa to do as much as they can to help us in this final push. We greatly appreciate the support we’ve continued to get throughout the food drive,” said Andres Mendieta, public relations director for the food drive.

Since 1994, the annual Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive has collected nonperishable food items to help needy Alabama families have a happier and healthier holiday season. Combined with Auburn, the two universities have raised nearly 3 million pounds of food for people across the state. All proceeds from the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive go to the West Alabama Food Bank.
