Norville, UA’s Mason Recognized for Contributions to Real Estate Industry

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Peyton Norville, longtime Birmingham real estate executive, and Dr. J. Barry Mason, former dean of the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration at The University of Alabama, were recently recognized for their lifelong contributions to the Alabama real estate industry.

More than 250 people attended the second annual Tuscaloosa Networking and Business Development reception at the NorthRiver Yacht Club during which Norville and Mason were recognized.

Norville has more than 40 years of experience in real estate and management. He is vice chairman of Jefferson Title Corp. and served as a director for the National Association of Realtors for a decade. Norville is past president of the Birmingham Association of Realtors and the Alabama Association of Realtors.

He was awarded the Tom Rast President’s Cup by the Birmingham Association of Realtors in 2003. The lifetime achievement award recognizes outstanding leadership and service to the association. He also has been selected Realtor of the Year for the Birmingham Association and holds the Robert Jemison Jr. Award and the David B. Roberts Award for distinguished service and outstanding leadership from the Alabama Association of Realtors.

In 2002, the Alabama Association of Realtors created the “Above and Beyond Award” for Norville for his efforts on behalf of the association members. He is a director of the Alabama Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

He served for six years as a charter trustee of the Alabama Center for Real Estate created in 1996 and served as chairman for two years. He rejoined the board in 2008 after a five-year absence. He recently formed Peyton Norville Consulting, a private management and real estate advisory firm.

Mason served as dean of the business school for 22 years before stepping down this past summer. He is serving as the interim director of the Alabama Productivity Center. Under his leadership, the Culverhouse College of Commerce achieved status as a nationally recognized public business school. Along with Paul Corwin, president of the Alabama Association of Realtors, he established the Chair of Real Estate currently held by Dr. Leonard Zumpano. He also was instrumental in creating the Alabama Center for Real Estate in 1996.

“We wanted to express the real estate community’s appreciation to both of these gentlemen, whose support and hard work have meant so much over the years,” said Grayson Glaze, executive director of ACRE.
