UA Athletics Department Gives $1 Million to UA Acts of Kindness Fund

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Athletics Department announced today that it is contributing $1 million to the UA Acts of Kindness Fund established by the University to assist students, faculty and staff who were impacted by the April 27 tornado.

“After looking into several ways to help during this trying time, we have decided to take funds of our own to assist those members of the UA community who are facing very difficult circumstances,” said UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore. “Our ability to help is a direct result of the incredible support of our fan base, whose continued support and enthusiasm makes everything we accomplish possible.”

“The University of Alabama appreciates this generous gift from our Athletics Department and their commitment to our students, faculty and staff as the University continues to care for those who were impacted by the storm,” said UA President Robert E. Witt. “We appreciate the generosity and compassion of everyone who has donated to the UA Acts of Kindness Fund, and we thank the UA family for their outpouring of support for the relief efforts of the city we call home.  At the end of the day, we are a community united in service to our students, our faculty and staff, our friends and our neighbors. “

The UA Acts of Kindness Fund was established to support an emergency-assistance program for UA employees and students. Contributions are accepted online: http://bit.ly/uaactsofkindness. More information on UA’s tornado relief efforts may be found at http://www.ua.edu/tornadorelief/.
