UA Spices Things Up with ‘Science of Hot Sauce’ Event

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Guest speaker Dr. Ben Villalón will give a talk on the “Science of Hot Sauce,” Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the lobby of Rodgers Library from 1:30-3 p.m. as part of International Education Week at The University of Alabama.

Villalón, nicknamed “Dr. Pepper,” is a professor emeritus of plant virology and plant breeding at Texas A&M University. His informative talk will cover the scientific properties of hot sauces and the nutritional and health aspects of chilies, fruits and vegetables.

The event is free and open to the community. A salsa and chutney tasting will be part of the program.

This event is sponsored by UA Capstone International Programs, the College of Arts and Sciences, department of chemistry, International Honors Program, New College and University Libraries.
