TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Faculty-in-Residence Series will begin Monday, Sept. 20, with a presentation from Irish poet Joan McBreen at 6 p.m. in 208 Gordon Palmer.
Sponsored by the UA Honors College and Housing & Residential Life, the event is free and open to the public.
McBreen is the author of four books and editor of an anthology of Irish women poets. Her most recent book “Heather Island” was release by Salmon Press in 2009. Her CD of poetry “The Long Light on the Land: Selected Poems,” which is read to a background of traditional Irish and classical music, was released in 2004. McBreen is from Sligo, Ireland, and she divides her time between Tuam and Renvyle, County Galway.
The Faculty-in-Residence Series is organized by UA faculty members who live in Honors College residence halls. As mentors to the students, these faculty members provide formal and informal opportunities for learning outside of the classroom.
The semester’s remaining events for the Faculty-in-Residence Series include: “Buddhism in Motion” on Nov. 1, “Voice of the Voiceless: a play on the life of William Bradford Huie” on Nov. 3 and Ted Conover on Nov. 9.
