ANNOUNCEMENTS

Currently enrolled UA students who wish to purchase tickets to away football games must place their names on a waiting list between Monday, Aug. 23 and Wednesday, Aug. 25. Requesting a ticket does not guarantee a purchase. Tickets will be allocated to students on the waiting list based on UA credit hours earned. This is not a first-come, first-served ticket sale. Students will go to rolltide.com and log into the Athletics Ticket Office system to request tickets. Results will be posted to rolltide.com. Students who receive the option to purchase a road game ticket will receive an e-mail from the Athletic Ticket Office inviting them to pay for their tickets online via credit card on Aug. 26 and 27. The tickets will be available the week of Sept. 6. The Athletic Ticket Office will send more information and details to students’ official UA Crimson e-mail accounts. More information: the UA Ticket Office at 348-6113.

A number of route changes to the Crimson Ride bus system became effective on Aug. 16. The changes make the system more efficient, user-friendly and environmentally friendly. Additional buses on each route will reduce passenger wait times and result in less fuel consumption. The changes include

  • reduction in the total number of routes from eight to four (See map for route details.)
  • elimination of the fixed bus route on weekends (Weekend service will be available through 348-RIDE [7433].)
  • addition of a weekend shopping route on Sundays (1-6 p.m.), which will transport passengers to popular off-campus retail centers, such as Target, University Mall and Midtown Village

Crimson Ride users should continue to use the TransLoc website, which displays the movement of buses around campus in real time. TransLoc now offers a smart phone application.

The Counseling Center has relocated to 1101 Jackson Avenue (South Lawn Office Building), adjacent to the east side of the School of Law. A map to the new location can be found at http://www.sa.ua.edu/counseling. Services, hours of operation and telephone number (348-3863) remain the same.

The Women’s Resource Center has relocated to 1101 Jackson Avenue (South Lawn Office Building), adjacent to the east side of the School of Law. The telephone number is 348-5040.

Each fall, all laptops and mobile devices registered on the UA system are removed in order to maintain a high level of safety and security across the campus network. Students no longer affiliated with the University have been removed from the system. Users who registered on the wireless network within the last 30 days were not dropped. All others will have to re-register. Students returning to campus who want to use a laptop or mobile device must complete a simple, one-time registration. Users will be prompted to complete the registration on their first attempt to open a Web browser. They must enter their myBama usernames and passwords, accept the user agreement and restart their devices to complete the registration process. For information regarding the registration of game consoles, click http://resnet.ua.edu/subscribers/gameconsole.html. ResNet users will be prompted to register their desktops, laptops and mobile devices. More information: the Office of Information Technology service desk at 348-5555 or ITSD@ua.edu.

Flu and other viruses can quickly spread among students and others living in community settings like residence halls, Greek houses and apartment complexes. Outbreaks of viral illnesses can begin any time. Take the following basic steps to help limit the spread of flu or any virus:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Clean and sterilize contaminated surfaces.

If you have flu-like symptoms, visit the Student Health Center or call the center at 348-6262.

Beginning Aug. 23, the UA Writing Center in 322 Lloyd Hall will be open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. during the fall semester. Tutoring is available by appointment or on a walk-in basis. More information: http://writingcenter.ua.edu or Dr. Luke Niiler, director, at 348-9460.

The University is making plans for Thursday, Nov. 18, the new date of the UA vs. Georgia State football. Anyone with campus events or activities scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18 should send information to Trent Barnes, assistant director of games and event management, at tbarnes@ia.ua.edu.
