Outdoor Recreation at UA Offers Wilderness First Responder Course

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama Outdoor Recreation is offering a Wilderness First Responder course May 17-25 that will provide medical training for outdoor educators, guides, and search and rescue teams.

The Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities Wilderness First Responder course offered by UAOR includes all of the essential skills required to assess and manage medical problems in the backcountry.

The WFR is a comprehensive and in-depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with: response and assessment, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies and survival skills, soft tissue injuries and medical emergencies.  Additional topics, such as CPR, are also included.

The WFR is 72-80 hours long and you must be 16 years of age or older.  For individuals 18 years old or younger, an official written consent must be provided.

Housing options are available. The total cost of the course is $300 without housing and $500 with housing.  Registration is limited to the first 20 participants who sign up.

All deposits/payments are non-refundable. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due by April 30.

Participants will be sent program information packets once a registration deposit is received.
