UA Students Take Part in African-American History Performance Event at Ensley School

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Students from The University of Alabama University Union will present “Making History Every Day,” a performance event, at Charles A. Brown Elementary School in Ensley on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at noon.

UA’s Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the Riptide Dance Team will showcase performances that focus on the influence African-Americans have had on modern dance. The event will begin with a performance by D-Sharp, violinist and UA graduate, followed by a vocal performance from Andrew Cotton, UA graduate student.

Members of the Vulcan Performers, a professional dance company from Birmingham, will dance during the program. Lady Woo of radio station 95.7 Jamz will be the master of ceremonies.

In addition, Toni Smith, 11-year-old music prodigy, and the African-American All-Star Drumline (a group of talented children from Pickens County) will perform sections on the progression of African rhythms in American culture.
