TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Kelly King, the chief executive officer of BB&T Corp., the nation’s 10th largest financial holding corporation,will deliver the keynote address at the Alabama Commercial Real Estate Conference and Expo next month, sponsored by the Alabama Center for Real Estate at The University of Alabama.
The conference will be Friday, Jan. 29, at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center in Birmingham.
King also is a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and was chief operating officer of BB&T prior to his appointment as CEO in 2009. By acquiring Colonial BancGroup’s $20 billion in deposits in August 2009, the Winston-Salem-based corporation became the fourth largest bank in Alabama.
“We are very excited that Mr. King has accepted our invitation to address the real estate and business leaders that attend our conference,” said Grayson Glaze, executive director of the Alabama Center for Real Estate.
“This gives everyone the opportunity to have first-hand insight on the national financial markets and future monetary policy that plays a crucial role in the recovery of the commercial real estate market, while also learning why BB&T is excited about the future business prospects in Alabama.”
This year’s conference speakers include nationally recognized commercial real estate expert Mike Lipsey, president of The Lipsey Group; Tommy Newberry, New York Times best selling author of “Success is Not An Accident” and the “4:8 Principle” and founder of the 1% Club; and David Hutchison, director of business development/recruitment at the Alabama Development Office.
The Alabama Commercial Real Estate Conference & Expo has been approved for up to six hours of continuing education credit. The afternoon session has several CE alternatives including a risk management course and another presentation on the modern-day role of real estate auctions.
About 450 people attended the conference last year, making the Alabama Commercial Real Estate Conference and Expo one of the major events for the commercial real estate industry for the purposes of networking, deal-making, and professional development.
