ANNOUNCEMENTS

Crimson Ride and 348-RIDE alter hours for Thanksgiving holiday period. On Wednesday, Nov. 25, Crimson Ride will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Crimson Ride and 348-RIDE will not operate Nov. 26-28. The 348-RIDE service will resume operation on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 9 p.m. Crimson Ride will resume regular service on Monday, Nov. 30.

UA is soliciting feedback from the community on the concept of a plaza at Foster Auditorium that will be designed to commemorate the events surrounding the “Stand in the Schoolhouse Door.” People can share their comments at open meetings on Tuesday, Nov. 24, and Monday, Nov. 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Room 127 of the Biology Building on campus. In addition, online comments can be made through Jan. 15, 2010, by visiting the UA Web site at http://www.ua.edu and clicking on “Foster Auditorium Plaza Renovation” under Quick Links at the bottom of the page. The Web site also offers an opportunity to share personal stories or memories of Foster Auditorium.

UA will host the Alabama High School Athletic Association Super 6 State Football Championships Dec. 3-4. The campus community should expect road closures, parking changes, traffic and food service delays for those days as more people arrive on campus. Two high school teams from each classification will compete. The championship games will be held in Bryant-Denny Stadium on the following dates and times:

Thursday, Dec. 3
11 a.m. — Class 3A
3 p.m. — Class 1A
7 p.m. — Class 5A

Friday, Dec. 4
11 a.m. — Class 4A
3 p.m. — Class 2A
7 p.m. — Class 6A

Tickets will be sold for $10 each at the gate on the day of the games. Tickets are good for all of the games on the day that the ticket is used. More information: http://www.super6al.com.

Coach Nick Saban is up for Liberty Mutual’s Coach of the Year in an online fan contest. The coach who receives the most votes wins a $50,000 donation to his favorite charity and a $20,000 donation to his school’s alumni association for scholarships. This will be a great opportunity for Nick’s Kids and the Alabama Alumni Association. You can vote once a day at http://www.coachoftheyear.com/ through Dec. 6.

The newsletter contains information about WRC events and programs, as well as information about women’s issues. ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The Honors College announces the 2009 EBSCO Industries Scholarship Program for Honors College students. The scholarship awards range in value from $1,000 to $5,000 per year. The awards are offered for a maximum of eight semesters. To be eligible, a student must be a member in good standing in the Honors College. The criteria for selection are financial need, GPA, involvement, achievement, effort (such as employment) and a short essay. Application forms are available in Nott Hall and must be submitted to 289 Nott Hall by Dec. 1. Decisions will be sent to applicants by mid-January 2010. EVENTS, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

The Alabama women’s basketball team will play Southeastern Louisiana at 6 tonight in Coleman Coliseum.

The Student Health Center is offering the H1N1 FluMist vaccine at the clinic during normal hours of operation by either walk-in or appointment (call 348-2778). The H1N1 flu vaccine is offered at no cost to UA students. The H1N1 FluMist is also available to UA students at Tutwiler Hall on Dec. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the Student Recreation Center on Thursdays, 4-8 p.m. More about swine flu: www.prepare.ua.edu. The next Brown Bag Lecture Series presentation, sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center and the department of women’s studies, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 12:30 p.m. in 308 Manly Hall. Dr. Ariane Prohaska, assistant professor of sociology, will lead a discussion on the motivations of “hogging,” a practice whereby men seek out women they deem unattractive or fat for sexual purposes. Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa party will benefit local family resource center. A “tacky” holiday party will be held Dec. 2 at 9:30 p.m. at Rounders on the Strip. Admission is one unwrapped new toy or $5, which will be donated to Tuscaloosa’s One Place to be distributed to local needy children. Dress is tacky holiday costumes. The Women’s Resource Center and the Career Center will host a Start Smart pay-equity workshop on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in 336 Ferguson Student Center. The WAGE project developed the Start Smart Campus Initiative to empower young women starting their careers to avoid the gender wage gap. The workshop is open to women of any age. Space is limited. Recent student artworks will be exhibited in the Sella-Granata Art Gallery in Woods Hall through Dec. 4. The exhibition is titled “Media Area: Painting and Drawing”. More information: Rachel Dobson.

The Alabama YMCA Collegiate Legislature will be March 4-6, 2010, in Montgomery, Ala. Collegiate Legislature is an annual conference where college students from universities across Alabama participate in a model legislative session in the state capitol. This is an opportunity to be actively involved with debate about important state issues and meet elected officials. Early registration is due Nov. 28. More information: www.cleg.org.
