TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Three Southern authors of noteworthy books – Kathryn Stockett’s “The Help,” Rick Bragg’s “the most they ever had” and Sonny Brewer’s “The Widow and the Tree” – will be on campus for book signings featured by The University of Alabama Supply Store.
Best-selling author and UA graduate Kathryn Stockett will be appearing at the Ferguson Center game room on Friday, Oct. 23 from noon-2 p.m. in a discussion and book signing of her popular novel, “The Help.”
Authors Rick Bragg and Sonny Brewer will be appearing at the Ferguson Center game room on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 5-7 p.m. Bragg will be signing his new book, “the most they ever had.” Bragg is a professor in the UA College of Communication and Information Sciences. He won a Pulitzer Prize for feature writing for his work with The New York Times.
Brewer will be signing his book “The Widow and the Tree.” Brewer founded the nonprofit Fairhope Center for Writing Arts and is former editor-in-chief of Mobile Bay Monthly.
Stockett’s “The Help” was featured on “The Today Show’s 10 Must Read Books for Spring” and has also received positive reviews from The New York Times, People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and the New York Daily News.

Due to the popularity of Stockett’s book, Supply Store guidelines for “The Help” book signing include:
- Line ticket numbers will be distributed beginning Friday, Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. at the Supply Store Ferguson Center location.
- Line ticket numbers will be distributed from 8-11 a.m. at the tradebook counter.
- Beginning at 11 a.m., line ticket numbers will be distributed in the lobby area outside of the Supply Store.
- Books must be purchased from a University Supply Store location and a receipt must be presented before a line ticket number will be given.
- A line ticket number guarantees your place in the signing line only. Line ticket numbers must be presented to enter the signing line. The signing line will form and follow numerical order.
- It is expected that the signing line will move quickly, so please listen carefully for your number to be called. If you miss your number when it is called, you will be asked to move to the end of the line.
- In order to keep the line moving, only three copies of the book per customer will be signed in person.
- Personalization is available.
