Advanced nursing degrees are within easier reach for area registered nurses through a new Internet-based partnership between Southern Union State Community College and The University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing.

UA Libraries Announce Book Collecting Contest Winners

Four University of Alabama students who have a passion for books have been named winners in the UA Libraries’ 3rd annual Book Collecting Contest. On Wednesday, April 15, at 2:30 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library there will be an event to recognize contest winners, after which Dr. Louis Pitschmann, dean of University Libraries, will speak on book collecting and book collections. A reception will follow.

UA Capstone Engineering Society to Sponsor Golf Tournament

The Capstone Engineering Society of The University of Alabama College of Engineering will hold the ninth annual CES Golf Tournament Thursday, April 30, at the Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer with registration and lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Ceramic Artists Childers, Cain to Show Works at UA

Ceramic artists Ian Childers and Micah Cain will visit The University of Alabama from Wednesday, April 15, to Friday, April 17. UA’s Creative Campus Initiative and the department of art and art history are presenting the visit.

UA SAE Wins Outstanding Branch Award

The University of Alabama Society of Automotive Engineers collegiate chapter is the recipient of the 2009 Honeywell Outstanding Branch Award. The chapter will be presented with a plaque and $600 at the SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, Mich., April 20-23. This is the second consecutive year UA’s SAE has received this award.

Thoroughly Spectacular ‘Millie’ Sings, Dances up a Storm At UA Theatre

The University of Alabama’s department of theatre and dance presents the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” Tuesday, April 21 to Sunday, April 26, in the Gallaway Theatre on Stadium Drive in the UA Theatre District. Shows are at 7:30pm Tuesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
