TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Distinguished pianist Jeffrey Siegel will be the next performer of The University of Alabama School of Music’s Celebrity Series at 2 p.m. Nov. 9 in the concert hall of the Moody Music Building on the UA campus.
Siegel has been soloist with some of the world’s great orchestras. Abroad, these include the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Moscow State Symphony, Bayerischer Rundfunk, The Hague Residentie Orkest, Oslo Philharmonic, Stockholm Philharmonic, Orchestra of La Scala and NHK Symphony of Japan.
In the United States, engagements include the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Siegel also has collaborated with many pre-eminent conductors and recorded extensively.
Siegel, who is now a Steinway artist, studied with Rudolf Ganz in his native Chicago, with the legendary Rosina Lhévinne at The Juilliard School, and, as a Fulbright Scholar, with Ilona Kabos in London.
In addition to his solo appearances, Siegel presents “Keyboard Conversations” –a unique, concert-plus-commentary format in which he speaks to the audience about the music before performing each work. Ongoing series flourish in numerous American cities, among them New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Phoenix, San Francisco, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington, D. C. and Denver. Some of these venues have been presenting “Keyboard Conversations” for more than 30 years. This season Keyboard Conversations moved beyond North America when it debuted at the venerable Wigmore Hall in London.
The Celebrity Series, which has been bringing world-renowned musicians to Tuscaloosa since 1988, is sponsored by UA’s College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Music.
