Hallelujah! Amen Corner Will Sing Its Heart Out to a Sold Out Allen Bales Stage at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama department of theatre and dance will present “Amen Corner” Oct. 23-28, featuring an all African-American cast on the Allen Bales stage to an already sold out crowd.

In “Amen Corner,” the 1960s reign supreme outside the doors of the small Harlem church led by Miss Margaret Alexander, the strong-willed female pastor. Once praised by her congregation, she now faces trouble as her long-lost husband returns to the city and causes tension amongst the fold. Keeping herself and her church together is near impossible as she struggles with feelings for this wicked man and her wayward son.

Although the show is sold out, the department of theatre & dance will sell
standby tickets one hour prior to each performance. Standby ticket patrons will be seated if the original ticket holders do not claim their seats by curtain. Those who purchased standby tickets that cannot be seated will be refunded.

“Amen Corner” runs in the Allen Bales Theatre Tuesday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Oct. 28. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday.

Following the Saturday matinee is UA’s Talk Back event in which audience members can ask questions of the cast and crew and learn more about the production process.
