TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama department of theatre and dance presents “Side Show,” April 16 – 22 in the Allen Bales Theater on Stadium Drive in the UA Theatre District.
This musical follows the true story of conjoined twins Violet and Daisy Hilton who became national celebrities of the side show circuit during the Great Depression. A circus of fascination wraps itself around their story of devotion to one another through the trials of fame and fortune while exposing the slicker side of showbiz. From vaudeville to Hollywood, Daisy and Violet fought for normality and love in a world that viewed them as only attractions.
“The excitement about this show has been incredible, and it hasn’t opened yet,” said Thomas Adkins, program director for theatre management. “‘Side Show’ sold out weeks before it even opened. To meet that demand, we are thrilled to offer an additional performance scheduled for Monday, April 16th at 7:30 pm.”
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the box office in Rowand-Johnson Hall Monday – Friday, noon – 5 p.m., or by calling 205/348-3400.
The department of theatre and dance is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the “USA Today” Academic All American Team.
