Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar to Lecture at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Margaret Levi, 2007 Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar, will give a public lecture at The University of Alabama Monday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library. Her topic will be “Achieving good government – and maybe legitimacy.”

Levi is the Jere L. Bacharach Professor of International Studies in the department of political science at the University of Washington. She has edited five books and authored three, including “Of Rule and Revenue” and “Consent, Dissent, and Patriotism.” She is also past president of the American Political Science Association and a fellow of the American Political Science Association and was awarded the Guggenheim fellowship for 2002-2003.

The Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program makes available each year 12 or more distinguished scholars who visit 100 colleges and universities with chapters of Phi Beta Kappa. They spend two days on each campus meeting informally with students and faculty members, taking part in classroom discussions, and giving a public lecture to the entire academic community.

Levi’s visit is sponsored by the UA chapter of Phi Beta Kappa with support from the College of Arts & Sciences, the department of political science and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

A reception will follow the lecture.
