TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Black Warrior River with be alive with action when The University of Alabama Crew Club hosts the annual Row Tide Regatta on Saturday, April 14 from 8 a.m.-noon.
Crew teams from UA, Louisiana State University, Rhodes College, Rice University, the University of South Carolina and Vanderbilt University will be competing in the event.
The competition consists of a 2,000 meter sprint race. Races are divided into three categories. There are divisions for men and women, novice and varsity, and four-man or eight-man sized boats. There may also be a two-man boat competition.
Racing will take place on the Black Warrior River between the McFarland Boulevard and Lurleen Wallace bridges. The starting line will be at River Road Park and the finish line will be at the UA Crew Team Boathouse across from the Corps of Engineers. Spectators can watch the races from River Road Park, but are encouraged to come join the teams at the boathouse.
“We’ve been working hard to make this year’s [regatta] the biggest ever. We are
looking for record attendance, so we encourage anyone and everyone to invite their friends and come join in on the action,” said Alabama Crew President Anderson Renaud.
Admission to this event is free. Row Tide Regatta apparel, Alabama Crew apparel and photography merchandise will be on sale at the boathouse. There will also be a concession stand. Please visit http://www.alabamacrew.com/AChomepage.htm for directions or more information about the regatta.
