Storyteller Performance to Celebrate Women’s History Month at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Acclaimed Israeli storyteller Noa Baum will present a multicultural performance of “A Land Twice Promised” on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in 151 Shelby Hall on The University of Alabama campus.

All UA students, faculty, staff and other members of the community are invited to join in for the celebration of Women’s History Month.

“A Land Twice Promised” is a story that weaves together two cultures. Baum, an Israeli woman, began dialogue with a Palestinian woman while living in the United States. This performance presents the stories of the two women and the stories of their mothers. The result is a testimony that illuminates the complex and contradictory history and emotions that surround the city of Jerusalem for Israelis and Palestinians alike.

Baum will also be offering a workshop entitled, “Risking Peace-Storytelling to Foster Dialogue.” This interactive workshop builds bridges of understanding using a storytelling model and invites participants to explore paths to dialogue. Participants will experience how listening to and telling the story of the “other” can help reduce negative stereotypes.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 29 from 9:30 a.m. until noon in the Riverside Residential Center Community Room. It is open to members of the UA community and pre-registration is required.
