Brown Bag Lecture to Focus on Spike Lee Film

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Women’s Resource Center and the department of women’s studies at The University of Alabama are hosting a Brown Bag Lecture Wednesday, Jan 24 at 12:30 p.m. in 107 Manly Hall.

Aaron Greer, assistant professor of telecommunication and film in the UA College of Communication and Information Sciences will explore one of Spike Lee’s films when he discusses, “She Hate Me: Identifying Sexism and Homophobia in Film.”

Using this film as a model, Greer will hold a discussion on how to identify and evaluate misogyny and homophobia in American independent film.

Greer’s areas of interest are documentary film, experimental and short narrative production, editing, sound design and international film. He is also the author and director of the nationally acclaimed independent film, “Getting’ Grown,” a thought-provoking story about a family’s struggle to raise a child in the inner city, where some get lost and some get ‘grown.’

This event is part of the Brown Bag Lecture Series sponsored by the WRC and women’s studies department.

The event is open to the public and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch.
