UA Launches New Institutional Web Site

uahomeTUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama has launched a new institutional Web site at http://www.ua.edu. The redesigned site features a clean, easy-to-navigate interface, enhanced content and improved organization, making it easier to locate and use UA’s many online resources. The site provides quick and easy access to information about admissions, academics, athletics, life at UA, the latest news from the University and much more.

Andy Rainey, UA director of Web communications, said the new UA home page is built to optimize the experience for all users and to better serve the University community. “This new site was designed with the user in mind, and we hope it will serve as an effective front door for the University as a whole,” Rainey said.

The site is also an integral part of UA’s “Crimson Is . . .” branding campaign. The phrase “Crimson Is . . .” is already familiar to many UA friends and family who have seen the University’s commercials and a variety of printed materials featuring the new “Crimson Is . . .” theme, used for the first time earlier this fall.

The new home page was developed by UA’s Office of Web Communications. Content for the site is jointly developed by the Offices of Web Communications, Public Relations, and Marketing & Communications. All photography is a product of the Office of Photography, and is protected by copyright. The UA web server is managed by the University’s Faculty Resource Center.

Rainey said the new UA home page was built using accepted Web standards in order to create a robust, widely accessible information tool for all visitors. The site functions smoothly on a wide range of web browsers and will continually evolve based on industry best practices and UA’s needs and priorities.

The UA Web site utilizes Lift Assistive to provide access to individuals with special needs. Lift Assistive generates instantaneous text-only versions of Web sites, ensuring that the University’s information and services are accessible for everyone despite physical, sensory, or cognitive user disabilities, work constraints or technological barriers or users. When used in tandem with audible text-to-voice software, this text-only version makes using UA’s sites much easier and rewarding for vision-impaired users.
